Breathe in the wild...exhale the grief
Julia Farrell-Smethurst

Julia Farrell- Smethurst
To the far ends of the world,
To the Seven Continents I will go-
From ashes to dust,
I return him to the earth from which he came.
I’ll grieve alongside a grieving planet,
Humbly asking nature to bring solace,
and leave me not alone.
Bargaining, that if I can just breathe again, that will be enough,
whilst stitching the lost pieces of my soul
back together again-
creating some semblance of my former self.
Words run away, impossible to find-
There is no medication to cure,
only numb-
but these come at a cost
until reality soon awakens grief’s sleeping giant.
However long God wills my life, I will grieve wild-
draping the sun’s warmth throughout my desolate, parched being-
becoming once again,
the artist of my own masterpiece-
using rays of light for a brush,
the landscape as my canvas.
For I have no other options.
